Winter is here and so are invitations for destination weddings. This year is special because a bestie or a close cousin is walking down the aisle or simply because you are excited about a destination wedding. Now that you have your invite in place, the next obvious thing that needs to be sorted is your wardrobe. The idea of a destination wedding may bring in ideas of fairy0tale costumes and over-the-top outfits. However, we do not want to end up sticking out like a sore thumb. Desijam.in has designers from Gionee India Beach Fashion Week-Season 2 to answer some quick questions on how to dress as a guest for a destination wedding.
Desijam: What’s the current big trend for destination weddings?
Designer Shweta Puthran: Sheer sarees and sheer lehengas with appliqué work are refreshing and elegantly sexy at the same time. A bit of surface ornamentation with vibrant landscape digital prints are very hot for the season.
Desijam: What are the colours for the season?
Puthran: Earthy tones like olives, khakis and warm greens with a splatter of marcella red is the hottest palette for the season. Marcella highlighted with a dash of antique metallic is sophistication to the discerning eye.
Desijam: What kind of accessories should one opt for?
Designer Mukti Tibrewal: Accessories should be very much classic royal but futuristic.
Desijam: What are the fabrics one should go in for?
Tibrewal: One should opt for something royal, self-textured and vintage. We are back to square one, where more than embellishments people want the touch and the feel of the fabric to be the best.
Designer: The dos and don’ts for guests at a destination wedding?
Designer Shruthi Kathpal: The don’ts would definitely be to not carry a lot, as Indians we usually end up wearing very heaving garments. However, the idea during a destination wedding is to carry fresh and lighter garments which would give them ease of movement and wouldn’t prove to be a hindrance in their celebrations. Since in a destination wedding, the main cue for fun is an exuberant style statement, this would definitely be a do!
