The first ever Ajeenkya DY Patil Filmfare Awards Marathi was a memorable event, one that Marathi cinema will earmark as a historic moment. The best and biggest names in Marathi films converged at the Kashninath Ghanekar Natyagruha, Thane, Mumbai to celebrate excellence in films that released in 2014. Contemporary stars rubbed shoulders with veterans and made the evening a night to remember. Highlights of the show were some scintillating performances and entertaining hosting by the who’s who of the Marathi film industry.
Popular actors Prasad Oak and Pushkar Shrotri were the emcees of the evening and their camaraderie and chemistry enthralled the audience all night long. What complemented their efforts were the dazzling performances by Sachin Pilgaonkar, Adinath Kothare, Manasi Naik, Sonali Kulkarni and Amruta Khanvilkar. Not just that, the wit and repartee of the likes of Makrand Anaspure, Sanjay Narvekar and Nimriti Sawant in the awards segments had the viewers in splits.
Amruta Khanvilkar rocked the stage with her singing and slick moves. A mash up of Devdas and Action Replay numbers set an electrifying mood. That was followed by recent chartbusters like Sun saathia from ABCD 2, Desi look from Ek Paheli Leela, the quirky Afghan jalebi from Phantom and the very engaging number Swagger from Tanu Weds Manu Returns. She finished on a high note with Devil mera yaar from Kick, which is still as popular as ever. Young Manasi Naik scorched on stage as she danced to Asa wajwa ki from the hit Marathi film Dholki and followed it up with the hit Kanika Kapoor song Lovely from Happy New Year.
The audiences also loved the energy when Manasi danced to Ringa ringa from the Telegu hit Arya 2 and the old hit Barbie girl from Aqua. Veteran Sachin Pilgaonkar’s act brought in a whiff of nostalgia as he performed to Raat akeli hai from Jewel Thief, Nisha from Sanam Teri Kasam, Hungama ho gaya from Anhonee and Jeete hain shaan se from Shaan. Adinath Kothare blazed on with Ajay Devgn on popular numbers like Singham and Omkara. His energy only escalated with the hit Ranjha ranjha from Raavan. Sonali Kulkarni added to the fervour as she sashayed to Deewani mastani from the upcoming Bajirao Mastani. Only to follow up with beautiful Marathi tracks like Apsara aali from Natrang, Ala re aala raja from the 2015 hit Classmates, Tu hi re maza mitwa from Mitwa, the popular Madan pichkari from Timepass 2 and Deva tuzya gabharyala from Duniya Dari. She signed off with Band baja from Mumbai Pune Mumbai 2.
It was a moving sight indeed when the audience stood up as one to greet the Lifetime Achievement Award Winner, the Marathi cinema legend, Ramesh Deo The other winners too in every category were cheered with no less an enthusiasm.
